Disabling a Portable App’s Splash Screen

Many apps packaged in PortableApps.com Format include splash screens so the user sees quick feedback an app is starting on slower flash media and doesn’t accidentally try to start it again. The splash screens also serve to let users know that they’re using a repackaged version of an app and to visit us first for portable support issues. If you’d prefer not to see the splash screen, disabling it is a snap.

PortableApps.com Platform — Click Options and select the Advanced tab. There, you’ll see a checkbox to disable splash screens across all our apps. Note that this will only affect splash screens shown by the PortableApps.com Launcher and not splash screens displayed by the apps themselves (GIMP, LibreOffice, etc).

Standalone — Within the AppNamePortable\Other\Source directory (where AppName is the name of the app you’re working with), you’ll find an AppNamePortable.ini file that includes some example options. Copy this file to the AppNamePortable directory and rename it, if necessary, to the name of the app (FirefoxPortable.ini or similar). Open the file within your preferred text editor, something like Notepad++ Portable. Within, you’ll find an entry DisableSplashScreen=false which just needs to be set to true. Save the file and the app will launch without the splash screen. This setting will be remembered as you upgrade the app, too.

Some apps include their own splash screen within the apps themselves (GIMP, LibreOffice, Scribus, etc). For these splash screens, there is sometimes an option within the Options of the app to disable it, a specific text file to modify, or a command line option to pass (which the PA.c Launcher can usually pass via the AdditionalParameters= setting in the INI file mentioned in the «Standalone» section above. You’ll need to check the app’s documentation from the publisher to be sure.

Сколько страниц сайта Google точно проиндексировал, узнать невозможно. Поисковик не ведет базу данных по URL-адресам.

Примерное количество страниц в выдаче покажет оператор site:, на который мы ориентируемся. Число может быть искажено страницами, которые запрещены к индексу в robots.txt, но попали в выдачу из-за внешних ссылок на них.

Чуть более точное количество покажет раздел «Статус индексирования» в Google Search Console, но и эти данные могут быть искажены из-за применения фильтров.

Организация и настройки в PortableApps.com

Для открытия меню оболочки, кликните по значку PortableApps com Platform в области уведомлений. Вы увидите установленные (в моем случае на флешку) Portableapps программы. В нижней части окна оболочки находится индикатор, отображающий место, занятое портативными программами на флешке или на том диске, на котором находится программа PortableApps.com.

Из разделов меню «Документы», «Музыка», «Изображения», «Видео» можно войти в соответствующие папки на том диске, на котором установлена оболочка PortableApps.com.

В разделе «Просмотр» отрывается диск (флешка) или папка с PortableApps.

С помощью раздела «Архивация» можно создать резервную копию PortableApps.com с установленными портативными программами, или восстановить PortableApps.com Platform из резервной копии.

Из раздела «Приложения» можно проверить обновления, загрузить новое приложение, установить приложение, обновить иконки, показать скрытые иконки.

Для изменения параметров приложения нажмите на «Настройки». В окне «Настройка» организуйте список приложений по своим предпочтениям, выберите подходящую тему оформления.

В правом нижнем углу приложения расположены две кнопки: для выключения компьютера и для отключения PortableApps Platform.

Removing Apps from the PortableApps.com Menu

To uninstall a portable app, just right-click and select Uninstall. The Platform will ask if you’re sure, then it will take a few moments to delete all the files.

You can also just delete the app itself in Explorer. From the PortableApps.com Menu, just click the Explore button and browse to the PortableApps directory. There you will see a list of the directories containing the installed apps. To uninstall Mines-Perfect Portable, for instance, you’d just delete the Mines-PerfectPortable directory from your device. You can then click Options — Refresh App Icons within PortableApps.com Menu and the it will detect that you uninstalled the app.

Using and Updating Multiple Copies of the Same App

PortableApps.com Platform 13.0 introduced the ability to use and update multiple copies of the same app. Once you’ve installed the app you’d like more than one copy of, browse to your PortableApps directory and make a duplicate of the AppNamePortable folder you’d like another copy of. Copying and pasting it in Explorer will work fine. Rename the second copy to AppNamePortable_Copy_2 (replacing AppName with the name of the app). You can have up to 10 copies of the same app with the 10th being AppNamerPortable_Copy_10. Now, when you check for updates within the PortableApps.com Platform, the update will applied to all copies of the same app. Be sure to preserve your original AppNamePortable copy as that will be the one the updater uses to determine when all of them need an update. Note that a couple of apps maintained by the publisher using a much older version of the PortableApps.com Installer may not support multiple copies of an app (example: Task Coach Portable).

Using the PortableApps.com Platform

To start up the PortableApps.com Platform, just double-click StartPortableApps.exe in the root of your portable drive. In many cases, Windows will ask if you’d like
to start PortableApps.com when you plug in your drive. Then, use the intuitive PortableApps.com Menu to launch your apps, browse your drive, search the web and more.

When using any portable software, here are a couple tips:

• Stay Safe — When using portable apps, it’s always a good idea to practice Safe Portable App-ing.
• Removing Your Drive — When you’re done, exit all portable apps and then wait for the activity light on your removable drive to stop flashing. Then click the eject button in the PortableApps.com menu and select to safely eject your drive. If you remove the drive while it is writing, you may lose data.

Using Portable Fonts With the Platform

The PortableApps.com Platform supports the ability to take standard font files (TTF, OTF, etc) with you and use them on any computer without the need to install them into Windows. Just copy the font files you’d like available to the X:\PortableApps\PortableApps.com\Data\Fonts directory in a standard platform setup. You may need to create the Fonts folder. Everything else is automatic and the fonts will be available to you in your apps while the platform is running. It should be noted that some apps use non-standard ways of determining what fonts are available and won’t be able to see them (GIMP and Scribus, for example), though in some of these apps you may be able to .

Note that Windows 10 introduced a bug that causes the APIs to load fonts and inform apps to be processed much slower (on the order of 10 to 100x) in the Creators Edition update. As a result, we recommend limiting the number of fonts you have loaded at platform start if you experience slowdowns.

AntiVirus Scans of Apps and False Positives

All of our apps are scanned for viruses before release. Nearly all apps are scanned online using VirusTotal using dozens of antivirus engines. On each app’s homepage, you can click the Antivirus Scan link below the download button to link to its results. For apps above VirusTotal’s 650MB limit, we scan the files locally using Microsoft Defender Antivirus, ClamAV, and at least one other commercial antivirus engine. For these files, the Antivirus Scan link on the app’s homepage will link here.

Some false positive reports occasionally pop up in different antivirus products in conjunction with software. This is partially due to the compression and portablization techniques used but mostly due to a failure of some antivirus companies to bad virus definition updates or questionable heuristics detections. If you encounter a false positive, please test the file in another antivirus product before reporting the issue to us in the forums to ensure that it’s not an error in their software. Several companies make available online scanners for individual files, so you won’t even have to install software (VirusTotal, MetaDefender, Jotti). Note that these online scanners use dozens of antivirus engines and will generally show false positives in a few of them. False positives in engines like Jiangmin, Bkav, Qihoo, and Trapmine can safely be ignored. You can also use ClamWin Portable or Emsisoft Portable to scan on the go. Thanks for your help.

Notepad++ Portable 6.5.2 has been released. It’s the handy Notepad++ text editor packaged as a portable app so you can do your development on the go. It has all the same great features of Notepad++ including support for multiple languages and an extensive plugin system, but there’s nothing to install. This release updates Notepad++ to the latest release and improves portablization when running from cloud drives. It’s packaged in PortableApps.com Format so it can easily integrate with the PortableApps.com Platform. And it’s open source and completely free.
