Compatibility

• Please note that Projects and models saved in version 11.5 cannot be opened in older versions of Lumion.  That also includes V11.0 and updates through to V11.3.1.

Note: Features, models, and materials with the asterisk (*) character are only available in Lumion 11.5 Pro.

Requirements

• The Lumion Viewer is an optional installation.
• It is only available for Lumion Pro licenses.
• It is not available for Lumion Pro Student licenses. 

Lumion Viewer is only needed if you want to send a project to a client and give them the unique ability to see and fly through the model in Lumions’ real-time 3D.

Please also note these important details:

• The Lumion Viewer can only open Projects made in Lumion Pro.
• To ensure the best viewing experience, the client will need a PC with the same (or better) specifications as the PC you are using to run Lumion.
• The client must also install the latest graphics card drivers and all available Windows updates.

Here’s how

2.1: Click on the Terrain mode button followed by the OpenStreetMap on/off button.

2.2: Click on the Pick GPS Coordinate button.

2.3: Click on the Search field to type in a place name or click anywhere on the map to place or move the GPS Coordinate pin.

• Hold down the left mouse-buttton to pan.
• Use the mouse scroll wheel to zoom in/out.

2.4: Drag the Map Range slider to adjust the area that will be downloaded. You may notice that the Map Range in kilometers/miles varies depending on the chosen location. This is due to the way cartography works as Earth (a spherical planet) has been projected onto a two-dimensional map. 

2.5: The red square is the area that will be downloaded and the triangular, blue arrow represents the camera position in your Lumion Scene, relative to the red square:

2.6: Click on the Start Download button to download the chosen area and wait for the download process to finish:

2.7: This whole area was built in a couple of minutes (download and finalization speeds are dependent on Map Range (size), your location and your local connection speeds):

2.8: Lumion 8 Pro and above lets you edit the position, height, heading and appearance of the OpenStreetMap model:

2.9: To show or hide individual buildings in the OpenStreetMap model, click on the Hide Buildings toggle button and then click on buildings to show or hide them:

2.10: Click on the Move OSM, Change Height OSM, Rotate OSM buttons to move and rotate the OpenStreetMap model via the Object Icon:

2.11: Click on the Change Appearance button and use the tickboxes to show or hide water, earth, buildings, land-use and roads:

2.12: Click on the Select Preset button to select a different look for the OpenStreetMap model: 

2.13: Use the Buildings Minimal Height and Randomize Buildings Height sliders to adjust and randomize the height of OpenStreetMap buildings that use default heights (i.e. not correct heights from the real world):

2.14: It is not possible to assign the OpenStreetMap model to one of the Layers if you wanted to control visibility.  It exists on a special Lumion Layer only.  So you need to turn off OpenStreetMap to fully hide the model.

2.15: Switching off OpenStreetMap before saving the Project means that the model won’t be saved as a part of the .LS8 Project file.

To avoid having to download the OpenStreetMap model again, please make sure you turn OpenStreetMap back on again before saving the .LS8 Project file.

Other New Features and Improvements

2.1: Build Mode

• Transport: Cars.  Using the hotkey C to change the color of a car is no longer random.  Instead, it will loop through all color presets so that you can select a different color. 
• You can now use the Escape key to exit actions of Replace selection and Place object on nodes when the mouse is not over anything. 
• The large/small thumbnail toggle has been repositioned to the top of the Library content view where the page numbers are. 

2.2 Effects:

• Blueprint Effect.  It is now possible to give the X and Y lines an offset, so you can align the grid to any element of your model. 
• Photo Matching Effect.  It is now possible to cancel the Photo Matching Editor while editing the effect and it will restore all settings to the moment of starting the editing.

2.3 Importing and Exporting

Re-Import Model button. When the source of an Imported Model is no longer available at the location where it was during the previous import, Lumion will now show the Re-import model from new file by default. 

2.4 Miscellaneous

• Clicking ‘X’ or selecting the Close application menu from the Windows application window to close Lumion when rendering, will now pause the render with the option to continue the render or stop the render.  This prevents situations where a user may accidentally click the ‘X’ button and would lose all render progress as it would go straight to the quit Lumion screen. 
• Video textures:  In Lumion 11.5 a video texture will be removed, when the model it was applied to is deleted from the Imported Models Library and Lumion has been restarted.  At the start of Lumion, it will check if the parent of the video texture is still located in the library. Previously when applying a video as texture the cache file was not always removed when the Imported Model was deleted in the folder \Documents\Lumion \Miscellaneous\Video Textures.
